Notes

A Romulan mining vessel in use during the late 24th century, the type is most notable for the Narada itself, which was under the command of Nero. When Ambassador Spock failed in his mission to save the planet Romulus from an exploding star in 2387, Nero took his ship through a black hole into the past. There he created an alternate timeline in an attempt to avert the destruction of Romulus and destroy the Federation instead. [2]

The Narada was able to destroy Vulcan, drilling into the core of the planet and dropping a small quantity of red matter in order to create a black hole within the planet. Nero proceeded to attack Earth, but his plan was foiled and the Narada destroyed by acting Captain James T. Kirk on his first mission. [2]
