Weird Forum Issue

Post by Lighthawk »

Something someone did to the wireless at work is screwing with the forum for me. Every now and then I get a proper layout, but mostly the forum layout and color scheme is totally out of whack.

Anyone know what's causing this and if I can do anything about it?

I get that every once in a while. Can't remember the reason it happens.

At work that's the state of things for me 99% of the time. And that other 1% only happens on the main page. And before anyone asks, yeah I check at home with my laptop, works fine there.

happenns to me sometimes when the internet here is being slow/unresponsive, I've always just seen it as the connection timing out before the browser can interpret and display all the formatting for the web page so you just get a generic base-line layout with the links, images and text.

I get it when I'm on the older school computers that run some god forsaken version of IE from the dark ages (They don't even have tabs, its that old). Otherwise, never really experienced the problem.

probably IE6 which was terrible, but regardless, the page not fully loading means that its only getting some of the information, as Sonic said, its probably timing out, which I'm not sure exactly how to change the time out function on any of the browsers.

A different browser downloaded to a USB drive may solve your problem. I had to do that for a while.

Near as I can tell, though Lord knows I'm not an expert, that stems from the pages loading incompletely.

Happens to me as well occasionally (home computer), though it hasn't happened for a while thankfully.

Well that sounds like a general consensus on the problem. Anyone know a solution?

Faster internet connection. it's all about the amount of info that can be brought in read and displayed.

Either faster internet or faster computer, or remove proxy settings, theres a lot of things that can cause it to render slowly, in this case I assume it's probably a proxy server that's slowing it to the point that the visual aspects aren't being displayed at all.

The word is roughly the same in computers, except it refers to a server rather than person. A proxy server is an intermediate server through which information is routed, in this context between a PC and the internet. A computer may connect to the internet through a proxy for security, or to anonymize its IP address or for other reasons.
