Re: Our ship - Shields
Look, let's stick with purely Federation tech. Throwing in Borg shields or whatever else will open up way too many unknown factors.

Re: Our ship - Shields
I tend to agree. Let's build a ship that we are fairly certain that Starfleet could put into general production right away.

Federation tech that's known to be in mass-production. I.e. no Endgame tech - the fact that there was no evidence of its implimentation as of Nemesis suggests that Starfleet was having problems reverse-engineering it, if indeed the technology wasn't specifically tailored to the Borg.Rochey wrote:Look, let's stick with purely Federation tech.

I know but we are 10 years after Nemesis... if we stick on Fed tech that we know of we will end up building a sov but only bigger and with more weapons
Re: Our ship - Shields
...and why should starfleet bother to build a ship like that?

Which would therefore be a different ship. In any event, I'm expecting this ship to come out significantly slower - a battleship to fight in the line, rather than a battlecruiser like the Sov.Talos wrote:I know but we are 10 years after Nemesis... if we stick on Fed tech that we know of we will end up building a sov but only bigger and with more weapons

Maybe we should put the ship being designed right after Nemesis.

Re: Our ship - Shields
With as much as everyone here knows I love to do things in the Uber manner I have to agree. If we don't know that SF can mass produce it then we can't use it. We are going to have not one but 14 of these battleships. We need to remember that everything they need to be built and maintained needs to be available at any starbase, dry-dock or shipyard in the UFP. Borg tech is not that. The regen shields are open for use, as are adaptive shielding (which is only useful against the Borg but never hurts to have it). No endless supplies of QTs or Ablative armour generators. The phaser lances are most likely just powered directly from the warp core. Also they take up all the phaser power a ship can produce, so again its tech that the UFP could build since we know that the Klingons now have the Mk 18s, no doubt the UFP would be looking to find something better if they were building their own Battleship class.

Re: Our ship - Shields
If we start throwing ablative generators, transphasic torpedoes, Borg shields and all that other unquantifiable and unknown stuff onto the ship with no idea of their capabilities or requirements then we just end up like 99% of all other fans that design ships and end up creating the USS Wanktastic.
Let's go with what we know about.

So auto-remodulation auto-regenerative shielding?

Re: Our ship - Shields
Agreed, SF doesn't need another battlecruiser design. She has that already. The point is to produce a ship that would be a true battleship of standard. A souped up Sov is still a Sov and that has its limits. Our ship is going to be the one they call in when the Sov thinks it will get its ass beat.Captain Seafort wrote:Which would therefore be a different ship. I'd buy that.ChakatBlackstar wrote:So auto-remodulation auto-regenerative shielding?

Right on the money, its open for use and can be mass produced.ChakatBlackstar wrote:So auto-remodulation auto-regenerative shielding?

Re: Our ship - Shields
Auto-remodulation/auto-regenerative 7m TJ bubble shielding. That's pretty damn awsome if you ask me.

Re: Our ship - Shields
So it would be probably better to assume that the ships are being built right after Nemesis and not a whole 10 years. Anyway since the majority agrees on building the ships on 2390 I think Mr Deepcrush that by then at least the QT are available in mych higher numbers... but we'll discuss that stuff when deciding on the ship's weapornyRochey wrote:If we start throwing ablative generators, transphasic torpedoes, Borg shields and all that other unquantifiable and unknown stuff onto the ship with no idea of their capabilities or requirements then we just end up like 99% of all other fans that design ships and end up creating the USS Wanktastic.
