Personally, the trailers have me intrigued.

The Mach 5 looks amazing. They did a fantastic job keeping its looks intact, and I saw a little martial arts action, too. And it's PG! I can take my kids to see it!

After the Matrix trilogy, and V for Vendetta, the Wachowski bros. decided they wanted to do something more accessible. I think they made a great choice.

That would be one of my personal favorites, Christina Ricci.

Matthew Fox is Racer X (which is how I found out about this; he's awesome on Lost), John Goodman, Susan Sarandon... Apparently, they're quite serious about this.

I can not decide if the over the top nature of the races/environment will help the movie or hurt it.

You just have to go into the film expecting the over the topness and possible campness and it should be a good time.

Did anyone notice in some of the trailors that there's also a Mach 6 in some scenes. It shares a design liniage with the Mach 5 but it has a 6-headlight system, some type of jet or rocket engine of some type, and only room for a single person. A pure racing machine.
