Put Manny Coto in charge from the start.
There is not a problem in this world that can't be solved without the proper application of a sufficient number of thermonuclear ordnance.

Make Scott Bakula play Captain Archer but in the style of Sam Beckett in Quantum Leap.
Every time he comes up against a angry Klingon or spatial anomoly of the week, he can utter 'oh boy!' with all the hilarity that ensues...

At least Dr. Beckett could kick some a$$. Archer was just a nice little punching bag. I kept waiting for Archer to be standing on the bridge and get covered in a blue light, then go "Oh boy". After all, Beckett's leaps were supposed to become harder and on a grander scale.

My memory of the series is vague at best, but didn't Beckett leap into Lee Harvey Oswald at one point?

Well, at least Archer was a better fighter than a speech-giver.

Actually, I had no problem with his speech.

His speeches were short and sweet. His getting the stuffing kicked out of him were rather painful to watch. We was completely curbstomped by Malikai the Augment, whereas Kirk at least put up a good fight against Khan.

Archer got his ass kicked in virtualy every fight he went into.

I find losing fights to be the most endearing part of Jonathan Archer. He's human.

What does defeat mean to you?

Nothing it will never come. Death before defeat. I don’t bend or break. I end, if I meet a foe capable of it. Victory is in forcing the opponent to back down. I do not. There is no defeat.

If Picard can kick ass, then Archer should be able to. Hell, just look at the amount of times Kirk kicked ass.

Kirk is an unfair comparison for anyone. What got me about Archer's fight record was that he was shown, as far as fighting was concerned, to not be able to find his own a** with both hands and a hunting dog. Yet, he squares off against Shran - a member of a physically superior, warrior race - in a duel fought with weapons which were native to Shran and completely unfamiliar to Archer and yet all of a sudden becomes skilled enought to subdue Shran. WTF?

See! Archer had been faking it every time he lost. Didn't Archer also defeat a Vulcan? I know I saw him beat up a Vulcan on Vulcan. So, if Archer is facing an opponent of equal or lesser strength, he will lose. If he faces something with superior strength, speed and stamina, he will win. Therefore I feel Archer has been faking the losses. Possibly for sympathy, or more likely, for betting purposes.
