Nice picture. Never seen that one before. I got a giant collection of naval history books. Over two book cases worth with a main theme of battleships. Never seen this one.

Fun thing about the G3 is that despite being classified as a battle cruiser it's capabilities compare favorably to the Iowa class twenty years later. Some say this was designed to force other powers into a naval disarmament since by this point the US was trying to overtake GB as the #1 naval power and Japan struggling to keep up with their 8-8 plan. GB was not in the position to build not only these but the battleship equivilants and was not in the mood for a possible restart of a world War again. After all, one of the leadups to WW1 was the naval race between GB and Germany.

Nelson class is an interesting one that is one that came from the above G3 class.

The reason why the turrets, the guns are all forward is dud to the armor scheme. Shorter armor box with all of the turrets forward as opposed to the more classic two forward, one or two back of the main super structure. With this, I am not sure but they never accounted for the piloting of such a vessel.

You see, with the bridge superstructure (which in itself was a novelty, where nowadays standard) was so far aft that the turning cycle was different when piloting the ship. The ship being very high off the water with a flat surface also caused a push counter to the turning at times. In other words, without experience with the vessel, someone steering the ship would face alot of challenges.

There is also the issue with having triple turrets and being 16in guns. Also there was a small gap in the armor protection and plunging fire.

In WW2 even before the war started both ships needed to be refitted. Specifically the Nelson. She needed miles or her electrical cabling to be replaced and both ships were in a verging state of disrepair as far as their propulsion. Nelson being the worse. Never happened. Even the US with its nearly unlimited resources and manpower couldn't spare the time to refit the Nelson.

More like being swindled by a cult. I could go on but I won't.

Wonder how much that would have been modernized. They would have been projected to be completed I think around 1927-1928. I don't think their superstructure would be that 'solid'. It would have been more like the other Japanese Pagoda style superstructures. As in more built up. I suppose maybe in the late 1930's they could have reboilered and re-engined them. I could see them redoing the bow too like in this picture.

But if these battleships are built that opens up a whole new can of worms. The older 14" gunned ships might not be around. Could Japan even afford them. If these were built what other ships would have been built world wide.

May not seem too cool, but for me it is. This is the newest toy for Cheetor using his Beast Machines design, and it's by FAR the best toy this design's gotten.
