Midnight Star

Post by Blackstar the Chakat »

After years of designing this ship, starting at some point in middle school with a different design evolving over the years, and now I have finally produced a picture of my/my main character's personal ship. I started designing it long before I started writing or began developing my own fursona. Sadly its grappler arms aren't visible in these pictures, due to time constraints of the project I was doing this for. I did try arms but due to issues I had and time constraints I had to scrap them from these pictures. The in-universe reason is that they are concealed when not in use. The second picture give a clear view of the Slipstream drive at the aft of the main body. I'm rather proud of the design myself.

These two pictures show the Midnight Star leaving the orbit of Nedai and its moon Little Sister. Blackstar is friendly with the planet's Princess after having saving her life and returning her home some time ago.

Midnight Star:

Primary Weapons:
3 phaser cannons
2 concealed launchers

Grappler equipment:

2 projectile pistols
2 phaser pistols
1 laser torch
1 buzzsaw
Additional equipment may vary

Propulsion:

6 impulse engines
1 Slipstream Drive

Crew:

Minimum: 1 pilot
Optimal: 5 people(1 pilot, 3 gunners, 1 launcher controller)
Evac: 50 people for 1 week

Background data:

The Midnight Star is the personal ship of the mercenary Chakat and leader of the mercenary force Blitz Team, Blackstar. It is a one of a kind ship built from the remains of the Twilight Maru, however with many improvements. The most notable difference, other then the color, is the removal of the standard warp drive. The nacelles were replaced with two impulse engines bringing the total to six impulse engines. The ship's FTL drive is now a Slipstream drive salvaged from a wrecked enemy vessel, an engine as unique as the ship. It's potential is limited only by it's power source and pilot's skill as it does need a living pilot.

The Midnight Star also has a 'brain' named Layla. Born severely crippled she was originally built into the Twilight Maru by her father, the ship's designer so that she could see the stars she dreamed of. She survived the destruction of the Maru and was added into the Midnight Star. She is capable of controlling all onboard systems and acts like an AI. She could leave whenever she wanted but prefers the companionship of Blackstar as shi always seems to be involved in something interesting. Blackstar is also a superior pilot and combatant.

The weapons are merely modernized versions of the Twilight Maru's systems. A total of three phasers and a pair of concealed torpedo launchers round out the primary weapon systems. The launchers are capable of handling many types of ammunition, but are normally loaded with photon torpedoes. Each weapon can be controlled from the pilot's console, the weapons console, or individually manned for maximum efficiency.

Additional weapons can be mounted on the grappler arms. A pair of projectile pistols and a pair of phaser pistols are the grappler arm's primary weapons however the other equipment can be used as improvised weapons. The grappler arms also reduce the blind spots to virtually nothing. The additional equipment allows the ship to participate in salvage operations among other things. They can be operated by a pair of arm-gloves in the pilot's area, with flight control being switched to controls operated by the pilot's handpaws.

The Midnight Star also has a small belly bay that normally holds Blackstar's personal Blade-class fighter. The Midnight Star itself is often stored in the bay of the Blitz Team's flagship, the Mystic.

The Midnight Star also has a mental link system, but is limited to short durations of usage and to only Chakat or Chakat-kin pilots due to their brain structure. Another unusual feature is its retractable assault pole. Tipped with a drill it can penetrate the hull of another ship, allowing the crew of the Star to penetrate the ship and take it over and/or rescue hostages as the mission requires.

While not a unique feature it is also capable of operating in atmosphere with little difficulty, and is capable of using it's grappler arms even in heavier gravity wells.

Although the Midnight Star is considered formidable, actual sensor records of it's battles are rare as it has usually fought in solo engagements and the ships it targets are believed to always be destroyed leaving only the eye witness reports of any survivors.

Straightforward, functional, and phallic. Just what I would envision for your personal ship, Blackstar.

Nice Outlaw Star references with the grappler weapons, as well.

Did you use Bryce, or some other 3d program for the render?

haha...you aren't the first person to make a phallic joke about my ship.

And yes, the grappler weapons were mostly inspired by the Outlaw Star

As for the render I used 3ds max.

Not a detrimental remark, there. Plenty of good things come in that shape: Bullets, missiles, submarines, airplane fuselages, my trouser snake... All good stuff. :D

I think its a fairly reasonable design. Not neccessarilly pretty in my book, but nice. Good job.

Not a bad design. Simple and functional.

I like the straightforwardness as well, and yours is far from teh first phallic spaceship, and won't be the last.

Isn't "Midnight Star" the name of the funk/dance band of the '80's who performed "No Parking (On the Dance Floor)?"

This? Phallic? Pfft, I've seen ships that are way more phallic than this.

Thank you, I'll be here all week... Then probably the week after that, and the one after that...
