Re: Rumours, news and general speculation

I was prepared to give this the benefit of a doubt but Ep 3 is a clusterfuck of global proportions. Spore transport, a captain on the edge of psychosis, blowing a starship to kingdom come despite apparently being safe enough to walk around at will.

Re: Most rewatched episodes of various Star Trek on Netflix

I grew up on Voyager and even then it was reruns. It was my introduction to star trek and so it was for most people around my age point (early 20s to late 20s) so it stands to reason it's prominent. It'll always have a soft spot for me, even if I am now aware of it's deficiencies in the face of the ...

Re: A newbie to B5

Largely agree with the comments above. S1 is fairly weak which I think is due, in no small part, to a fairly unremarkable lead. S2 and S3 really pick the pace up with peaking mid way through S4 I would suggest. The episodic format is not only a foundation for which later sci fi was built but the mul...

Re: Favorite Recipies

For those who are interested in more food related recipes, I use this one weekly in cold weather: Butternut Squash Soup ingredients: 1 large (2 medium) butternut squash, halved and seeded 2 shallots, chopped 2-4 garlic cloves, peeled and chopped 1 tart apple (granny smith works great), roughly chop...

Re: Pilot

You know, cavernous plot holes aside, I didn't mind it. I sadly suspect the place for old style cerebral Star Trek is virtually gone. I'll watch for lack of anything else to watch but it's merely...passable.

That being said, The Expanse is a real showcase on a modern sci-fi done right.

Re: ST: Discovery Klingons Full Analysis (Trekyards)

The designers of the TMP and subsequent ones at least pay homage to the TOS weapon Graham showed us. The design clearly has a similar shape if not style; the STD ( ) version is more like a wrongly coloured Hirogen rifle.

Not that anything else from STD is even close to in keeping with the lore!

Re: Your friendly neighborhood... thing

Not strictly a cryptid though it has a definite olde english feel, I love the tale behind "The Highwayman" by Alfred Noyes. I particularly enjoy the adaptation into song by Loreena McKennitt

Re: Your friendly neighborhood... thing

I have several in the Hampshire area. Most famously is probably Ascapart the Giant who was supposedly conquered by Bevis of Hampton. Bevis took him in as a squire rather than kill him; Ascapart betrayed him and abducted his wife. Eventually he died when Bevis and co. rescued his wife. Slightly more ...

I knew one of the victims. Not overly well but enough that it was surprisingly more real. Deplorable act, regardless. RIP.

Re: General UK Election thread

The distinct absence of any centrist labour MPs in the public eye, Like Yvette Cooper or Andy Burnham, suggests they have pretty much decided to allow Corbyn et all to hang themselves on their inevitable election failure.

Re: Should sci fi ships use VLS?

Unless the fuel and physics of changing course are trivial matters. If that is the case, fitting 10 tubes into the space of a single turret mechanism would be preferable.
