Re: What Was The Purpose Of Force Z?

There was many who believed that a modern battleship with a modern AA suite manuvering underway could shrug off of air attacks. The Repulse and Prince of Wales were supposed to get air cover but never did. I think with the ships they had they were hoping like some said to tie up some of the Japanes...

November 11th, 2387 1300 GMT (Stardate 64860.95) Cardassia Prime "It is with great pleasure that today we can restore full governing authority to the people of Cardassia and the newly elected Detapa Council," stated Ambassador Nguyen to the assembled media and crowd of dignitaries. This w...

Re: Sisko's Worst Command Decisions

I think the Vulcans have been slowly geneticaly engineering humans to remove all of their survival traits over time. More than that I am not sure what it would accomplish. It was only a two year war and I presume the training time for these things would be long enough that it would not really make ...

Re: Federation Fleet Composition

We are way off topic but the old 1/3rd structure for the USN was really as much a function of the Cold War as it was anything. The idea was that no more than 1/3rd of the Fleet would get caught in an initial nuclear laydown. That was coupled with a doctrine of power projection with the Carrier Group...

Re: A Star Trek Story

September 4th, 2387 Office of the President, Earth Andreas Rall was an atypical man for his position for despite its openness as a society many in the Federation still suffered from a basic distrust of telepathic species. Andreas had been leading a fairly normal political career as the minister of ...

Re: Spacedock Idea

I agree with that timeline. It makes sense with what you see with Starbase 74 as well. As soon as Excelsior is designed you know the next ships will be even bigger, so you would start work on something else which turns out to be the scaled up Starbase we see in TNG.

Re: Federation Fleet Composition

11, 12, 192 ... someone make up a number already... Roughly a third of a ships time in service is spent in refit and another third on workups, leaving a third for actual active duty. What the ratio is for SF, who knows. My guess would be that can do better than that primarily because space is...

Re: Sisko's Worst Command Decisions

It would be political suicide for the government. More than that I am not sure what it would accomplish. It was only a two year war and I presume the training time for these things would be long enough that it would not really make a difference. You need a fleet ready to fight a war at the outset. ...

Supporting Material for "A Star Trek Story"

The following is a report from the Bureau of Ships who is responsible for managing the construction of ships for Starfleet. It gives the roadmap from where Starfleet was at the end of the Dominion War to where it stands now. Bureau of Ships Construction and Development Schedules United Federation of...

Re: Spacedock Idea

Not entierly true. By the end of WWII several ships existed that could not use the Panama Canal in the form of the Midway Class carriers and the proposed Montana Class Battleships. You could just cram an Iowa in there. None of the carriers built since can fit in the locks and they have to go around...

Re: No Money Economy-unrealistic and stupid

What about living space? I assume that the top floor of our Utopian Tower is more valuable than the bottom. How do we decide who lives there? What about people we see who own large grape farms and tracts of land in France? That is basically impossible without money or some form of property ownershi...

Re: Spacedock Idea

You probably have a point, Tyyr. I just find it odd that someone would design a massive station which they must know may need replacing - or at the least a massive refit - in just a few decades. BigJ' is right, though. Some docking arms would make infinitely more sense than an enclosed area. The Pa...

Starbase 342, Admirals Quarters While Clark was quite young for a Starfleet admiral, having achieved flag rank during the Dominion War at the age of 47 and now aged to 58 years, he felt quite old to be the father of a nine-year old. Twice a father before Clark and his wife had given two children to...

Re: A Star Trek Story

Starbase 342- Command Level, In Orbit above Terra Nova By any measure Starbase 342 was a massive facility. The newest of the line that began with Starbase 74 and traced its lineage back to the original Spacedock facility built long even it was overwhelmed by the number of ships currently calling on...
